A TRIBUTE TO MOTOWN LEGENDS

Now in its fourth season, The Grand Majestic Theater is going a step further in offering the best entertainment experience with the most variety in the Smoky Mountains. They have announced the addition of a new show, SOUL OF MOTOWN, opening on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at 8:00 PM.

SOUL OF MOTOWN promises to bring a fresh and vibrant youthful energy that will transport audiences back to an age when the greatest Motown acts of all time were at their peak in popularity. A combination of talent, passion, range, versatility, and charisma give these multi-talented performers a signature that effectively pays homage to these great vocal acts, but also gives them an unforgettable quality all their own. Charming tenor Gavin Earl Johnson puts audiences under his spell with velvety vocals and versatility in both range and style. With smooth baritone vocals and skillful agility, Andrew Malone demonstrates an inborn passion for Motown inherited from his late grandfather who sang with soul music pioneer Sam Cooke and esteemed jazz and blues legend Lou Rawls. Roger Casey knows style was characterized by the kings of soulful and seductive crooning and he does just that with his sultry mid-range vocal style. Lively tenor Quenton Menendez has an undeniable vocal blend of power and finesse that will catch listeners by surprise. Group leader Anthony Bailey completes the package with his effortless vocal flavor and persuasive storytelling style that penetrates the very heart of his audiences. Bailey has toured as a vocalist with Diana Ross, Mariah Carey, and Johnny Gill.

The Temptations' "My Girl" and "Ain't Too Proud To Beg", "Under The Boardwalk" by The Drifters, "Only You" and "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" from The Platters, "Ain't No Stoppin Us Now" by Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes, and The Commodores' "Brick House" are among the timeless and unforgettable favorites that can be heard from one of the most unique groups ever to connect in this growing entertainment and tourism hub. With the same hunger for putting their mark on the world that made those original Motown groups famous, Soul of Motown delivers a supreme concert-style tribute production to some of the greatest vocal groups ever to hit the charts, with live harmony, grooving dance moves, and inspiring talent. In a moment, however, they strip all of the show away and deliver familiar favorites with only their raw vocal talent, which truly shows what this group is capable of producing.

From the early years of doo-wop and Motown to the era when Motown branched out from Detroit into Philadelphia and beyond, this show will reintroduce audiences to The Temptations, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Sam Cooke, The Jackson 5, Marvin Gaye, The O'Jays, The Impressions, The Stylistics, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Ritchie, Boyz II Men, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick, Earth Wind and Fire, plus more!
